Kenneth Millar published his first short story in 1931 in The Grumbler, his high-school's literary magazine, for which he was the editor. Kenneth Millar wrote twenty-four novels in the thirty-four years between 1944 and 1976.  Eighteen of these featured the detective Lew Archer and were written as John Ross Macdonald and, later, Ross Macdonald.
